Then I did a sketch for the outer rim, indicating where the dark areas are. I used HB and 2B in this process.
Next we should be ready to do the shading, once you sketch out the rim. Make sure you have the proportion right before you jump into shading.
The next step is fun for me.
Take out your 8B 4B pencils. Shade in the darkest area of the rim(In most case). The darkest area should be in the rim, where you can't see normally in real life. 4B pencil for dark outlines first. Use 8B for shading the dark area in. Notice, some area might not be completely dark, some area has details also. Try to draw them out!
